This course is application-oriented training on use of the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Hydraulic Engineering Center River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) program. HEC-RAS models steady, gradually-varied, one-dimensional open channel flow using the Standard Step Method for water surface profile computations. The course introduces the theory and practical application of open channel flow hydraulics for culvert and bridge design using a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops. Participants learn how to implement a procedure to conduct a hydraulic analysis for culvert and bridge crossings in Pennsylvania. The analysis includes site assessment, cross-section data collection, hydraulic method selection, interpretation of output, and comparison of existing and proposed condition |
